HUH?

Michael sez: I got this from
http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1318968,obama-gun-sales-up-120808.article
Don't ask me what it means. It's a bunch of words written by political people and I am just a redneck sort of fella who lives in a holler down in Southern Indiana and down here we have difficulty translating these critters. I can make out what my cats say easier than what a politician writes. But we will be watching and the mid term elections are getting closer with every day. DON'T TREAD ON US.

Obama: Don't stock up on guns
December 8, 2008

BY ABDON M. PALLASCH
Political Reporter

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.
"I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

"Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.

Obama answered "yes" in 1996 to a questionnaire from an Illinois group on whether he supported a handgun ban. But he later said a staffer filled out that answer and he did not support a ban.

Nationally, background checks for gun purchases jumped nearly 49 percent during the week Obama was elected, compared with the same time period last year, according to the FBI's National Instant Background Check System.

Anecdotally, gun dealers around the country have reported spikes in sales. The Illinois State Rifle Association Reports gun sales for November were 38 percent higher than last year.
"We don't dispute [the gun sales hike] because the numbers from the federal system certainly confirm that there is increased activity out there. We just think it's a bit stupid," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence.

"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

This post would be amusing, if if weren't so annoyingly ignorant. You know, there's a big world out there. And there are much more interesting ways to interact with it than by shooting at it.

You just nailed it mayberry. It's hard to believe that people are so enamored with this guy that they're just ignoring everything that comes out of his mouth that's genuinely scary. He looks good, he's smart and he's well spoken. How can he have anything but the best intentions for all of us?!?!

Interesting that the comment above thinks that guns are for attack when the 2nd Amendment is CLEARLY for the DEFENSE of this Country.

Personally I have yet to attack with my guns....Defended against snakes, would defend against intruder and in defense of hunting, defended against hunger...

Aha! A detractor! Just what I need to perk myself up. I am not in the entertainment business so I don't really care if I am amusing or not. I believe that staying alive in the coming hard times is a serious matter and I address it as such. As for shooting, well, it's been 4 or 5 hours since I last shot my shotgun. The neighbor's hound was setting out to kill himself a duck and was walking across the ice on the lake to get to them. I interrupted his foray and put him to flight, unscathed I might add. You see, we feed the ducks and they are mostly pets and the dogs are fed on a very steady basis and are not hungry, just being dogs. And that is the way I look at the coming hard times. I will basically try to help people as much as possible but I will not tolerate my family and friends being hurt. Hurt them and I will hurt you. I've sorta devoted myself to that principle.

I am afraid that your accusation of me being annoyingly ignorant is a key to understanding YOUR thinking capacity. It may be a big clue as to your moral code also. I think it points you out as an ignorant sociopath, unfit to judge the works of serious and thoughtful people. My readers would not think you too impressive in the brain area.

I am aware of the size of the globe and the emotional drives that rule it, at this time. In fact I am so much more aware than you on this matter that it is not even close. The Master of humanity does not have to travel far to understand it. I find humanity to be very boorish and depressing. The are not fit for saving, in the main. But what God leads to me I will try to help. It is what I am called to do. And while I am not in the entertainment business, neither am I wanting to be entertained. Let humanity go to work and feed itself and I will feel more alive than now. Your kind has so few answers for humanity. So little to offer in the way of possible cures for their problems.

You bore me.

What you say may be true, Michael. But seriously, did you see the size of that bud forming on that Reefer in his avatar? Whoa!

I have to agree that Obama cannot be trusted, but I cannot see him going after guns his first term in any significant way. I wrote about it a while ago here a while ago.

This quote by Obammy is probably damage control to try to keep cash from filling the war coffers of the gun manufacturers for the big battle in his second term.

It's really pretty simple to translate. In short, plain English, it says: ``Buy more guns. And LOADS of ammunition.''

The long form might be something like: ``I'm going to push you as far as you'll let me, so buy more guns. And LOADS of ammunition.''
