[Fellow survivalists. I don't know if this is true or not but it sure is interesting. And knowing the reliability of our government and our media, I would not be surprised if it were true. Michael]
Gold finds our deep hot biosphere teeming with life -- and controversy
By David Brand
http://www.news.cornell.edu/chronicle/99/1.28.99/Gold-book.html
The ideas come crowding in: Deep within the Earth's crust is a vast
ecosystem of primitive bacteria nurtured by a reservoir of
hydrocarbons of unimaginable size, much of it untapped. Even more: The
microbes predate all of the planet's other life forms, existing even
before photosynthesis became the preferred life-giving form.
The messages seem to be:
·Subterranean bugs are us -- or at least they started the whole
evolutionary process.
·There's no looming energy shortage because oil reserves are far
greater than predicted.
In the hands of anyone other than Thomas Gold, the reaction to all
this might be a skeptical raised eyebrow. But Gold, as ever the
Cornellian gadfly, makes his argument with erudition and conviction in
his new book, The Deep Hot Biosphere (Copernicus/Springer-Verlag).
Professor emeritus of astronomy at Cornell and the founder and
director of Cornell's Center for Radiophysics and Space Research for
two decades, Gold is hardly a stranger to sticking his neck out. He
has been proven right in such diverse realms as a theory of hearing,
the interpretation of pulsars and a theory of the Earth's axis of
rotation.
But Gold's most controversial idea, as physicist Freeman Dyson notes
in the book's forward, is that of the nonbiological origin of natural
gas and oil, which he first proposed more than 20 years ago. These
hydrocarbons, Gold postulated, come from deep reservoirs and are
composed of the material from which the Earth condensed. The idea that
hydrocarbons coalesced from organic material is, he says, quite wrong.
The biological molecules found in oil, he avers, show only that the
oil is contaminated by microbes, not that it was produced by them.
Some researchers, and in particular petroleum geologists, have taken
issue with Gold's proposal. They are likely to be even more put out by
his new book, which says that these microbes populate the Earth's
interior down to a depth of several miles and that everything we see
living on the planet's surface is only a small part of the biosphere.
The greater part, and the ancient part, is very deep and very hot.
Indeed, Gold shows irritation at a scientific community that "has
typically sought only surface life in the heavens." Scientists, he
writes, "have been hindered by a sort of 'surface chauvinism.'"
The heavens? Absolutely, says Gold. "Spectroscopic evidence is very
strong for many planetary bodies. The prime example is Titan [a moon
of Saturn], which has clouds of ethane and methane. They interchange
with the surface, so there must be lakes or oceans of liquid ethane or
methane. Once you know that, it's clear they came outside from the
body within."
Thus, he writes, life on many other planetary bodies seems probable,
even though their surfaces are either too hot or too cold to support
life. "Subsurface life, however, is another matter. Mars, the
satellites of the major planets, many asteroids and even our own moon
should be regarded as real prospects for harboring extraterrestrial
life of this kind," he writes.
On Earth, says Gold, there is clear evidence that subsurface microbial
life still exists; for example, in the discovery of primitive microbes
in hot ocean vents. "We pulled up bugs from five kilometers down in
the granite in Sweden. They were perfectly alive and probably the
earliest life form on the planet," he says.
Photosynthesis, his book argues, "developed in offshoots of
subterranean life that had progressed toward the surface and then
evolved a way to use photons to supply even more chemical energy."
When surface conditions became favorable to life, surface life was
able to blossom.
In the eons since, the deep world of microbes has had to rely on
chemical energy, the oxidation of hydrocarbons, ranging from methane
to petroleum, as the organisms emerge upwards from deep reservoirs
below. "Every oil-bearing region in the world must have large amounts
of microbiology," he says.
Writes Gold: "In my view, hydrocarbons are not biology reworked by
geology (as the traditional view would hold) but rather geology
reworked by biology. In other words, hydrocarbons are primordial, but
as they upwell into Earth's outer crust microbial life invades."
Reviewing the book, Publishers Weekly noted that "if Gold is right,
the planet's oil reserves are far larger than policy-makers expect...
moreover, astronomers hoping for extraterrestrial contacts might want
to stop seeking life on other planets and inquire about life in them."

HO HUM, ANOTHER DAY
I have to break in here at the news of the market. The DJIA is down 400 points. The unemployment is up to 5.5% The dollar has fallen against the Euro. Gold has gone of $900. With $138 a barrel oil expected to hit $150 by the 4th of July, we could be in for some shocks. Invest in tangibles!

I get on the mainstream media and all they want to talk about is Obama and Clinton. Like I really give a damn. With the globalist set-up we now have in this country, the President is a bit player in a B-grade movie. Who is president just doesn't matter that much. Forces outside of presidential control are steering the boat and people better get used to that. And you heard it here, at Staying Alive! The President is just not allowed to realize how insignificant a jerk he really is. If he really wanted to make a difference he would put rational survivalists in his top cabinet positions. Man! Would that ever be a fun time! "President Dakin announced today that various models of the Army's M-16 rifle will be handed out to the citizens of this country at the rate of two weapons per household. The President announnced that 10,000 rounds of ammunition would go to each household also." "Secretary of State, Dr. Ron Paul, is on a globetrotting mission to explain why the USA is pulling all troops out of foreign countries and bringing them home. He is also telling foreign aid recipients that the money is going to stop and they will have to make it on their own. Howls of anguish are being heard from Israel to Indonesia but Dr. Paul is being adament about the aid cut-off."
You could get on this and come up with a whole new fantasy world if you really wanted to. And who can say that your fantasy would be worse than what we have right now? "Not I" said the Michael.
What survialists need to be doing is restoring balance to life. There needs to be a Harmony of Survival, not a Cacophony of Chaos. Sure, if the water starts to leak into the boat you try to get it plugged quickly and as best you can. That can be a rush to the brain. But what you really want to do is get back on the voyage! And thus we have the survivalist paradox. We want to live a normal life and raise our kids and live out our days. But the powers that be have our ship of state running into the rocks at full speed. And that makes it tough to maintain your social balance. You want to sing in the key of "D" but the band is playing in "A". Not a good thing.
It is well known that the media and the fedgov like to keep the public on edge. That is the new style of government relating to the governed. It is not really new, but it is in this country to a large degree. But they figure we are easier to control if we are a little bit upset with someone besides them. We are to depend on them to handle the problem for us. You realize, I am sure, that the problems are arranged in advance, along with the governments solution. Thank you Mr. Hegel.
So go ahead and prep and get ready for the hard times. They will come sooner if not later. After all, it's a set-up.
You have a built in shit detector inside of you that is pretty accurate. It can lead you to safety if you let it. It knows wrong from right, if it is fed proper data. See that it gets the facts. Don't be afraid to place your own thinking above that of the government. Thinking isn't much of a noisemaker anyhow. You can do it silently. Do not get spooked by news and propaganda. They are all under the control of those who wish to dominnate you. to manipulate you.
The media sets the agenda for the national discussion. What ever is on the news is what people talk about. Don't let them do this to you. Seek other sources of information. Talk to people on the net. Ask yourself constantly if you are being lied to. And if you are constantly geting diffferent answers than what is presented to you as fact by the media, then chances are you are being fed a line of shit.
In order to maintain some sort of balance in your life I would suggest two things. Number one is to take Melatonin at night about an hour before bedtime. Helps keep you sane and lets you dream. Dreaming is important to the human psyche. The other suggestion is to have a hobby. And I can't really tell you what to choose because it is for you and not for me. A hobby is a personal matter. Pick something you like and is pretty much legal and go to it.

DC gestapo tactics
Here is an article off of the Agitator. Just type it into Google if you want to know more about this guy. He also writes for FOXNEWS.COM.
D.C. police will seal off entire neighborhoods, set up checkpoints and kick out strangers under a new program that D.C. officials hope will help them rescue the city from its out-of-control violence.
Under an executive order expected to be announced today, police Chief Cathy L. Lanier will have the authority to designate “Neighborhood Safety Zones.” At least six officers will man cordons around those zones and demand identification from people coming in and out of them. Anyone who doesn’t live there, work there or have “legitimate reason” to be there will be sent away or face arrest, documents obtained by The Examiner show.
Lanier has been struggling to reverse D.C.’s spiraling crime rate but has been forced by public outcry to scale back several initiatives including her “All Hands on Deck” weekends and plans for warrantless, door-to-door searches for drugs and guns.
Under today’s proposal, the no-go zones will last up to 10 days, according to internal police documents. Front-line officers are already being signed up for training on running the blue curtains.
Here’s my favorite part:
Peter Nickles, the city’s interim attorney general, said the quarantine would have “a narrow focus.”
“This is a very targeted program that has been used in other cities,” Nickles told The Examiner. “I’m not worried about the constitutionality of it.”
Obviously not.
Last week, I received the following email:
I live in Eckington, a “transitional” neighborhood in northeast DC. I got a knock on the door this morning from a guy with ACORN (looks like a lefty community group that I’d never heard of) saying that DC police would be coming around shortly asking to search homes in the neighborhood for guns, and explaining we had the constitutional right to refuse, etc. He added that anything the police find they can use against you because “you never know what a friend of a friend might have left in your house” Not sure if he told me this because I had just gotten out of bed and had answered the door in my bathrobe looking disoriented, but I digress. He was handing out a packet of info from the ACLU including a nifty doorhanger you can put out that says “NO CONSENT TO SEARCH OUR HOME”. One of my neighbors told me the guy told them they were only doing this in poor black neighborhoods, and this notice from the ACLU that I found online seems to bear this out.
I know it’s not exactly a wrong-door no-knock raid, but I am concerned because while I certainly don’t want the police (or any other strangers) rummaging through my junk, I’m kind of afraid of what would happen if I refuse the search. I already live on one of those streets with the surveillance cams installed. Does my address get ‘marked’ for being uncooperative or suspicious? I should mention of course that I don’t own any guns and have never touched anything more powerful than a bb gun.
You are free to refuse the searches. But if a regular reader of this site feels uncomfortable asserting that right, you can imagine how other people subject to these searches might feel. Despite the promises of amnesty, I have a hard time believing you’re going to get off if you allow the police into your home and they find significant amounts of drugs or weapons.
Stay alive.

MORE ON GROUP SURIVAL AND RELIGION AND WHATEVER POPS UP
Man. The readers just about blew my doors off over my last post. Apparently there are some spots on our feasts of charity. Some people feel left out. Some people can't find any friends to group with. Some people have mates that aren't exactly pro-prepping. And all kinds of stuff got mentioned and talked about. I was busy answering emails but I must admit that they were very interesting. It has been my position that survivalists are at the high end of the intelligence scale in this country and the response has proven it.
Group survival has struck a chord in a lot of people. And it only makes sense. No one can do it all. You have to sleep sometime! But survival is also common sense. And History is full of stories about how our ancestors made it. A hundred and fifty years ago people didn't live in town, for the most part. They lived in little towns and villages. They lived close to where there was food. Cheap food. Or free food. I would surmise that there aren't too many small farmers who wouldn't let you plant a garden on their land. They would when I was a kid. Growing food is their business and I think they admire others that want to do it. Of course I go back to the time when farmers plowed and disced their fields every year. It was nothing for them to leave you a small plot in a corner. It would get plowed and disced and the rest was up to you. If you didn't do anything with it I would say that the next year you would have trouble getting the favor again.
But if you have your own land and a group of people you can grow CROP GARDENS. That is what I like. Don't grow a few bushes of beans. Grow a sizable plot of them and have lots of beans for lots of people. Grow enough to have food for a whole year! That is the way it was done not many years ago. People really knew how to garden back then, and they will develop the skills again. I suppose the Handmaiden and I have a dozen books or more on how to garden. Lots of folks could borrow them and read 'em. And many hands make light work. All that weeding would go quickly if a whole camp got up and weeded the garden as a group. Done in no time.
I do not think the rioting will last very long in this country after it breaks out. Two or three weeks at the most. After that the detention camps will have all the rioters sequestered and out of the way. When folks are walking the land and looking for food you can have some mean experiences. Shotguns are a remedy for this. Asking for food is one thing, stealing food from the mouths of the people is a whole
different trip. You gotta look out for the people. And you gotta have people!
I wish to bring up the subject of religion. You ain't supposed to do that. It is not politically correct. But I don't like religions. Can't hardly stand 'em. I consider them to be abominations before God. Am I making myself clear? Is there any more dirt you think I should kick on religions? If it will help you, I will kick. No problem.
There has been more people killed in the name of religion than we can count. There has been more ruin and slavery done in the name of religion than anything else. I am tired of it all! I will serve God and that is that. You can take your religion and shove it for all I care. Again! Have I made myself clear? I will do what I get from God to do and rejoice in it. But I will not give one drop of sweat to a religion.
I have a way to cope with religionists. I call it the grinding of the millstones. I will listen to a religionist preach but he has to listen to what I have to say also. And religionists don't like to share the floor. The high and mighty don't need to hear a crude fellow from back in a holler saying things about God! They mostly like it when the sheep come in, sit down in silence, listen to their sermon, leave their money and then leave. Not to be seen for another week. In another week they return, walk into their stanchion and get the treatment again. Pathetic. What if God has sent a snaggled tooth old crone with the message he wants heard that day? Well, it ain't gonna be heard, that's what. The US-HERS will have her out of there so fast you won't even recognize the time passed. And God's message never got delivered. Who in the hell ever said that some pimp for a religion had the only word from God for ANYBODY at any given time. Disgusting. I'll lose half my readers for this rant but I can just put it off as the skimming of the dross. But you can preach to me if I get to preach to you.
I was going to write about guns today. I haven't had a gun post for a few weeks and folks might think I was getting soft or something. Get you some good firearms, something that will protect you and those you love. Go shotgun, 22 LR and 30 caliber something or another. Get what you can shoot. No sense developing a world class flinch from getting yourself too much gun. After all, you want to hit the target not make an audio impression. I must go now. I will be trying to stay alive!

ODDS AND ENDS
I have been asked to relate how the ownership of my homeland was accomplished. No problem.
Up until the late 70's the property was owned by the Old Man. Lock ,stock, and barrel. I lived many years under those rules and felt quite comfortable with the arrangement. The Old Man was a man of the people. True to his word.
After a lawsuit by a half dozen dissidents, basically dopers who didn't like the rigorous work of the valley, a lawyer was hired to make up a trust to own the land. This trust has never been broken, to my knowledge. In one evening the Old Man gave the village and all the property away to the people, who immediately signed it over to this land trust. The trust was run by 7 trustees whose basic mission in life was to see that the land taxes got paid. The trustees get no salary, just the responsibility. There are clauses making the mortgaging of the property extremely difficult. All of the land, and we added a lot after the trust as formed, is paid for and free of indebtedness. We must get up the money to pay the land taxes and that is about all here is to do. This method has worked for almost 30 years and seems to be successful. The Old Man was not willing to part with the land of the people without a fight. And though it is a matter of public record, no one has seen fit to take it on in court.
The business was made into a partnership. Everyone 18 and older was a partner in he business. The IRS hated that. We gave them as high as 90-some tax filings per year for the partners. There were two partners who were designated as managers. They could indebt the business. This was to enable them to do the daily affairs of commerce. If you had to go out and buy 4 new skidders or 6 new semi's then you had to be able to do the business required to finance the deals. We got in trouble financially in the early 90's and we had to go to becoming a corporation. The IRS said we could not go back to being a partnership. So the Old Man told them to get fucked and we filed the partnership papers. Nothing was ever said about that by the IRS. The sawmill business went belly up in the early "0"s. One of our other businesses had to buy it at auction. No one showed up to bid and it was bought for the minimum. But the market has been a disaster this past decade and the mill is not running.
So there you have the story of the transfer of ownership to the people. I hope this explains the matter in a satisfactory manner.
********
I got this story from http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,362124,00.html.
ROME — The U.N. secretary-general says world food production must rise by 50 percent by 2030 to meet increasing demand.
Ban Ki-moon told world leaders at a food summit in Rome today that nations must minimize export restrictions and import tariffs during the crisis that has caused hunger and riots across the globe.
Participants at the U.N. summit are trying to figure out how to head off skyrocketing food prices before millions more join the multitudes across the globe who already lack enough to eat.
*********
This Ban Ki-Moon must be a pretty potent force in the universe to tell the farmers of the world to increase their production by 50%. I think he is full of shit and living in a fairy tale mental condition. I have been having a discussion with Dragon about the climate situation of late and it looks like we are headed for a few cold years and maybe reduced harvests. If I have my figures straight we ought to come out of it in 30 to 50 years and then it will warm up again. It does not look like it will be dangerous cold and you wake up looking at a wall of ice slowly creeping down upon your house. No. It doesn't look that bad at all. But get ready for some chilly Winters. Some good wood stoves would be nice. Heat is always a popular commodity when the temperature is down around zero on a fine January morning. I bought my Bow Saw and my axe a couple weeks ago. That ought to get my fat ass to lose a few pounds! By the way, I think the cold spell started in 1998 and Dragon thinks it is started in 2004. I ain't conceding any points here but the highest temperature we had in 2004 was 89 degrees. Oh well!

Some of the mainstream news media is making noises about how everyone should become a prepper to some degree. Funniest damn thing, though, they never make mention of having anything to PROTECT your preps. I guess you are just to have it ready when the riots trigger off and they start looting homes. AND WE ARE GOING TO HAVE RIOTS! It will take a HUGE drop in oil prices and a HUGE farm crop globally to avert such things. And it doesn't look like it is going to happen. It's raining outside my window right now. I can even hear some distant thunder. As of last Friday or Saturday, Indiana, the number 5 corn producer in the country, only had 75% of it's crop in the ground. And a lot of guys are replanting what they already had in. Pain and suffering. When the prices hit in August or thereabouts, look out! The people are going to go crazy. Americans are not used to going hungry and paying incredibly high prices. It is a whole new world. Welcome to globalism, America! And the crops that do come in are going to the highest bidder, not assured to go to the American public. And if a hurricane crashes one of our refineries on the southern Gulf Coast, Katie bar the door! Gas will shoot up like a rocket. Pleasant dreams!

The problem is that some of us aren't the kind of survivalists people WANT in their groups.
[And that could be tough shit for THEM. We will end up needing all the help we can get.]
For example, I'm a devout Messianic Jew with four children under seven.
[A Messianic Jew? My God, woman, you're backing TWO losers. Mose's movement went into the tank a couple thousand years ago and the churches who say they are of the Christ have become the Apostate Church. Me, well I am just of God. Never knew those other fellas anyhow. But I know something about God. And he is magnificent.]
Nobody wants four small children underfoot, eating up stores and unable to contribute... not to mention how that ties MY hands.
[The kids are innocent. They had nothing to do with their arrival on this planet. And the oldest could probably work in the garden pulling weeds an hour a day. Subject to lavish praise and some sort of reward!]
On top of that, every group I've seen advertised says "No religious zealots". And since I'm not of the same belief system as the all-American 'christian', my keeping the feasts, not eating pork, and not observing X-Mess or Ishtar is a problem, y'know?
[You do what you can and what has to be done. If the Mutant Zombie Bikers are about to take your scalp it is NOT time to have a feast. I think that people don't want things to influence their lives that they don't understand and don't want to learn. I make it by following God. He lays the situation out for me and I try to cope with it. Keeps my ass busy, let me tell you! You might be a contributing member of a community that needed child care to free up women for working in survival. The young are the future and should not be neglected at all. You might get your ass stomped if you get caught teaching them how to be Messianic Jews but that can be avoided. My teacher heard the voice of God one day and it said, "Christian is not the name of my people today." That should piss a lot of folks off but that is just too bad. God didn't ask me what I thought before he uttered those words. And I don't observe Pagan/Christian holidays either. Bad practice, especially for the young. And you will eat pork if it is what is available to keep you and your kids alive. I am not your Priest but I will tell you that 99.99% of all religious dietary restrictions are absolute BULLSHIT. Probably pissed a bunch more people off with that statement. See, annamatrix, you have socially redeeming value! You have got me to open my big mouth about religion and a man ain't supposed to do that if he wants public approval. So much for public approval. Sigh...]
It doesn't matter if you've got stores to contribute, ammo and arms, critters and knowledge.
[Man! You got stuff like that? And I am married! Ain't that a pisser. But I have a friend who is an excellent prepper and is looking around for a mate. I'll tell him about you.]
What matters is that you're not a burden or a 'wack-o religious fanatic'.
[Just reason and logic. You can make allowances for some differences and supposed shortcomings but too much is simply too much. You ever heard about "keeping a low profile?" Don't rub people's noses in your lifestyle. Be cool. Dont go to the table carrying a sword. Go to the table with good food and drink. If you carry a chip on your shoulder someone will knock it off, sure as hell. Be mellow. Let your actions say good things about you.]
That's not including the lack of likeminded people in our areas, and/or the trust factor. Let's face it - you don't know Sam Survival from Son of Sam. Trust doesn't come in 10# cans.
[Finding trustworthy fellow preppers is, as one man wrote to me this very morning, like trying to find hens teeth. Not an easy occupation. Hang in there.]

I SOMETIMES WONDER
I wonder what a lot of people are doing in the survival endeavor. Where are their minds? What is motivating them? I read the bloggers and I read the comments and I still can't get a good picture of a survivalist. And that is a funny thing, when you stop and add up the requirements of staying alive. No one seems to be getting a group together to make it. They seem to have forgotten all their past, all their genetic experience. The only group of people I have ever heard of that went about things mostly alone in this country were the trappers in the early 1800's. And they weren't too long in being around. They died off and life went on without them. I would say they left little genetic inheritance around to carry on their blood lines. Maybe some, but not much. They were the rugged individualists of their time, making a living in a world that no longer exists. The world that exists and has existed has been populated by GROUPS of people. No guesswork on this one, just demonstrable fact. Any type of life on this planet that has amounted to a hill of beans has been a group. But the survivalists, the people who should know these things, shy away from a group endeavor like the plague. Maybe they don't like the connotation of being in the midst of a group that can be labeled "radical" or something to that effect. Big Government and Big Media like to label people, mark them for all to gaze upon as "different" and threatening. And the masses suck it up like vacuum cleaners and go on with the program of labeling anything new or different from the norm or holding a viewpoint outside the properly accepted boundaries of society as something to be shunned. Something to be kept at a distance. And most are cowards and walk away from that which might save them and their families. And some walk away because those very families they are trying to save refuse to follow them, thus having the blood of their potential salvation on their hands. Nasty business.
I propose group survival because I have lived in it and prospered from it for decades. I raised my kids in it, as I was allowed. And my friends did also. We had our times of wealth and we had our times of poverty. But I can guarantee you that the times of poverty were much easier to bear. There was a whole gang at work to make a living. And that is my reason for being. I think intelligent people will see the advantages of group survival and prosper at it. I have already made my mark on the earth, to the extent that any man can influence the coming generations. It is a pretty daunting task and not easily accomplished. And no one knows the cards to be dealt in the final hand. But what do humans really have to do about life anyhow? Can they guarantee what will happen with their own household after they die? No, they can not. They can hope and plot and scheme but the truth is they have to place their hopes and dreams on the Alter of Sacrifice and hope it is a sweet savor in the nostrils of God. For man cannot control much and he controls little or nothing after he leaves this mortal realm. The best chance a man has to do something decent in the way of the people he will leave on this earth is to create a society that will hold to certain values as much as possible. Not an easy thing to do. Not easy at all.
What is needed is some die-hard survivalist to step forward and tell his buddies on the internet to come on to his place. I would do it myself but it is not time for me as yet. And we have 150 people here with as it is. Of course, it can hold many, many more but the time is not right as yet. Or we would damn sure be doing it. And I would say that we will do it when the time comes. Certain things must happen for it to be critical to increse our population. But we will! But a die hard survivalist coming forward to his friends and saying "y'all come on" would blow this thing wide open. They would have to have a big website to handle all the people who just wanted to know how things were progressing. It would stand survivalism on it's head. The new group would have to put up a gate to keep new joiner prospects from moving in unannounced. BECAUSE THE MESSAGE IS SO STRONG! BECAUSE THE WORLD IS GETTING MESSED UP TO THE MAX. BECAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS IT'S GOING DOWN. And they crave a leader. They crave someone to tell them where to bunk and where to get their chow. They need a leader to tell them where to work. They need someone with a big heart who will bring them on in to safety.
It won't take an Einstein. It will take a man of the people. It will take a man who doesn't want prople to work for the system but for themselves. A man who doesn't want people to get ripped off for their ilfe's work. A man who wants EVERYBODY to be fed. If one man eats they all eat. Plain and simple. I remember once back in 1972 or 1973 when we only had canned green beans and potatoes to eat. Two weeks of that. You could get mighty tired of green beans and potatoes let me tell you. But things got rolling again and we got a little better food coming in to the village and that was just a time period we can talk about now. But it gave you a place in the world. You had a common experience with a group of people and it rooted you to their cause and made you a member and a resident. You had taken the hard times the same as them. Shared experiences are so important to a group effort. I can remember the deer we killed and ate when times got tough. The King's Deer went into the skillet and fed us all. I don't remember anyone calling the Governor and thanking him, but who gives shit. We lived. Ha Ha! Life is good when you win one. But we had a man who kept some hunting ammo up in his room and when things got tough he passed it out to the men who could make the kill that would put the meat on the table. He had alrady bought them good rifles when times had been good.
But I am trying to get something across to you. I am trying to explain a little bit of the group mentality. I am trying to explain that many hands make light work and many ideas can produce a way to make a living. Many eyes can become great security. Many arms and hands can build log lodges. Many women can cook great meals. And all this can help you stay alive.

THE SITUATION
I am feeeling pretty good about today. Thanks to the Handmaidens efforts, we have 12more rows in the garden pretty well couquered of weeds. That makes 18 that are up to snuff. Let's see, out of 51 rows of corn and beans that leaves just 33 to go. Damn good if you ask me. I headed in to this weekend with NO hoeing done. Tomorrow morning should see my ass down there slaving away and adding to the total of weed free rows. If it don't rain. We have had such a huge amount of rain. I think I mentioned that we are only 75% of the way through our planting this year in Indiana and the farmers are in the fields. And this is with the best in technology. Farmers don't work in the fields like they used to do. They go in with Round-UP Ready seed and drill it in to the dirt and let it go!. Fertilizer goes in right with the seed. The seed is fed by the fertilizer. Then the Farmer goes over the field with Round Up herbicide and that's it. Or else he goes over the field with the Round Up before he plants it. Don't quite remember and don't know that I want to remember. The soil is essentially used to hold up the plant. The fertilizer is the food the plant feeds upon. I don't like this way of farming. Pisses me off. When I was a kid the farmers went in and plowed and then disced their field. Then they planted, putting a little fertilizer in with the seed to help it along. After the crop got up and going, the farmers would go out in the field with their cultivators and go through and uproot the weeds. That pretty much took care of things until harvest time. After harvest the farmer was back in the field with his planter again. He planted Winter Wheat for his second crop. This Wheat was not harvested but was plowed under as "green manure" in the Spring. But it held the soil together during the months of inactivety between Summer harvest and Spring planting. And plowing it under made good nutrients available to the next crop of plants. It would be cost prohibitive to farm in such a way in today's world. All that machine work with a machine burning fossil fuels. All that fossil fuel based fertilizer. But that was how it was done 50 years ago. Up where I was from the land was very flat and rich. A lot of farmers were just hired hands who lived in the farmhouse and raised their families. They did all kinds of things to make it. Drove school buses and what not. A little bit better dirt and a lot better people.
A week ago there was a big article in the corporate media about a farmer who was going back to using mules to farm. His sons helped him farm and they could do the work with the mules. Pretty nice set-up. No fuel. I think they raise cattle and thus need only get in their hay and some little corn. The rest comes from the cattle grazing and feeding themselves. And I like this. And I thihk we will be getting back to this kind of life on our farms. And farms will be geting small again because the price of fuel will make them too expensive for one man. And the farmer will get HIS food from the farm. Multitasking as done in the mid 1800's. You like good country ham, you raise a few hogs. You like chicken for Sunday dinner and eggs in the morning for breakfast, then you have a chicken coop and you keep it going. You might rustle up some sheep so your wife can make some good warm Winter clothing. You won't be out in the fields much in the Winter but you will still have chores to do. What people we have will move out of the cities and back to a rural existance. They will come together like in the old days, small villages with Elders around for advising. It will be a new experience for a lot of people in this country to see respect shown to the Elders. Not much of that goes on anymore.
This country bought into the Youth Cult thing about 50 years ago and has never looked back. They might start looking back pretty soon because the future ain't so bright and wholesome as they had it planned. I was talking to a young man, half my age, this evening. We both thought about a time that is coming when the economoy will be more like the 1850's than the 2008 we have now. We needd to do a few things like get some horses trained and such as that, but we were both assured that we could make it. We have large flowing springs. Can you imagine the blessing of free, pure water? How many in the system can speak of that? How many would have water they could even drink if the lights went out. How many could bathe? How many could wash their dishes and their clothes? How many could flush a toilet? I can get gravity feed for water to my home. I can get water to my toilet. I can get water to the tap. A wonderful thing. We have fields for crops and animal herds. We can have cattle and goats and sheep. Meat and milk at the ready! How many in Nu Yawk Sity can make statements like this? How many would even be able to deal with it if they had it? Not many.
But if we can get the horse thing going and be able to haul our products and do our tilling of the soil, we can live a decent life. It will be quite a change for some of us. A lot of people have never lived without technology and have never studied about how it is done. But it sure as hell has been done. If it had not been done we would not be here right now. And neither would anybody else. I am gardening my ass off. I am geting a little help, believe it or not. People are getting interested in living. I actually heard a modern young man say he would enjoy the 1850's lifestyle. We have a lot of things to solve but I have no doubt that it can be done. And I know many of you reading this can solve some of those problems too. You just need to consolidate your efforts. Hell, there are enough preppers in Texas to start three or four settlements right now! If they ever get it together they could make it really easy. Many hands make light work. And get a man with a Shepherds heart to head it up. A man who has a pair. A man who realizes the need to work. A man who won't flinch from the defense of his people. No sissies. No girlie men. But a man who cares for the people and their welfare. Hold his hands up and support him. He will be under a lot of pressure. The world will be a different place in a few years. A much different place. Gather in a people who accept this change, who can live with it, who will work with it. This is how you can stay alive.

SUNDAY, AGAIN
I'm sitting here typing because I don't have a blog to post today. The pressure is on. Maybe I ought to go take a nap and get my strength up! The Handmaiden rents DVD's for 50 cents apiece in town for us to watch. Saw a 20 year old flick last night called Casino with Di Niro and Sharon Stone and a whole mess of good actors in the cast. One of the Smothers Brothers was in it but I could not pick him out. But it was a good crime ridden movie of corruption in Vegas. The Mob, the shysters, the whores and the pimps. What America likes to watch!
I made the statement this morning that Summertime preps might seem a little slow to some folks but that some of us are growing preps and won't count the increase until it's actually under roof. At least I won't. Dreams don't count in the game of preps. You gotta get your hands on the stuff. That's why I call things TANGIBLES. If I can get them into the house and stored way then they exist. It's all BS until then. But I have lots of BS planted and high hopes it will turn into TANGIBLES.
Sitting out on the porch this morning watching the cats sleep and clean themselves I wondered about baiting my trout lines in case of need. The guts of small critters will bring in catfish like crazy. I have a new fishing pole compliments of the Handmaiden, that takes no reel. It is a 13' long pole that comes in sections. I have plenty of tackle stowed away and all it will take is some worms and I will bring'em in. More free food!
The news this week has been Same Shit Different Day. No one seems to know what the hell is going on. Drudge has an article about bank failures on the horizon. Wouldn't surprise me a bit. I've been expecting it. The real disaster supposedly lies in the realm of derivitives. I don't exactly understand these little devils but the stockbrockers seem to be right on them! But I never used a stockbrocker in my entire life and I won't use one now.
The pundits on the rebelious side of things are still as negative as ever. And I must say I hold with them on a lot of issues. My reasoning in this is that I believe the mainstream news media is covering up the truth of what is really going on. This fedgov is the most secretive group I have ever seen in Washington. Everything is kept secret for the sake of national security. Well, we must be pretty damn secure because we sure do keep a lot of secrets. Mostly from ourselves, the people.
THe real security news is that the corn crop may fizzle out to not enough. Indiana, the number 5 ranking corn producer in the country is only 75% planted. And farmers are repoprting they must replant a lot of fields because of excessive rain. A very pricey proposition. All that crop must be planted with ferilizer costing a $400 a ton premium. Ouch! China is buying it by the boatload. The ChiCom government does NOT want a crop failure in China. Too much chance they could take a good ass whuppin' if that were to happen. So get ready for a huge increase in food prices this late Summer. And think of all that food we eat processed with high fructose corn syrup. Things are gonna get out of hand, I think. But there are a couple billion too many people on the planet right now and it looks like the number is about to be reduced. I'm not apocolyptic, I'm just concerned about the people I love and live with.
Keep your food preps in a state of readiness and keep your powder dry! This will help you stay alive.
