HAS THE DIE BEEN CAST ?

Today is a day to be marked on your calendars. It is the day it became apparent what the fedgov is going to do about the calamity with our money.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up over $400. A barrel of oil is almost $110. Gold is sorta marking time, along with silver. What the hell is going on? I'll tell ya' what's going on.

The Federal Reserve Bank is bailing out the nations banks by "injecting" liquidity into the market. And how do they inject liquidity? They inject liquidity by supplying to the banks money in the form of cash, secured by instruments of value. What is the instrument of value? The same goddamn worthless toxic mortgages that have us here in the first place!

Maybe they are just selling these bundled mortgages for todays home prices and not for the inflated price of the old toxic martgages.

So the money is flowing again and we, the U.S taxpayers are bailing out this incredible banking mess. The Federal Reserve is going to bail out the banks. And we have been told it would not happen. They would have to take their lumps like us peons. But apparently this is not the case.

And these bundled mortgages will be sold to overseas investors. And they will own America. They probably have them all cleaned up and socially presentable for their new owners. How nice.

Well, its the only thing we have of any value. Our homes. Maybe the fedgov will sell them some timber or oil land out west to sweeten the deal. Or maybe coal land in the Dakotas. That Powder River coal is good stuff. China will buy the hell out of it. Might move a few tens of thousands of Chinese workers into the country to mine and load the stuff. What do you bet that they have Peoples Liberation Army uniforms hidden in their luggage?

And there are not many women for the young men of China. Since they have had the one child per family policy, the Chinese have literally killed a lot of the girl babies because everyone wants a son to carry on the name. Can't say as how I blame them for that. I want my son too!

But any Chinese coming here will be after women. Those guys are really after the female of the specie. And they are in a bad way. They would like to come to the US and find a release from their frustrations.

So keep getting ready. This injection of liquidity is monopoly money. Play Dough.

All the world is run by fiat money. No one has a gold standard anymore, though Vietnam and Moldova and a couple other countries are getting close to a gold standard. But right now the funny money guys have the ball and are doing what they will in the market place. And don't forget that all our trading partners are funny money people also. Some of the Scandinavian countries have skilled high production people who can compete in the world markets. The Arabs have all the oil, or most of it. Russia has gas and oil also. And a few other countries have energy fuels or high food production. But that leaves the rest of us suckin' hind tit. So our funny money trading partners will be propping each others currencies up at the slightest provocation. If one big boy falls, they all fall.

It's really an interesting time. Stay alive folks. This is only the first stage!

p.s.
I just want to add that if the funny money guys get the money flowing again, as soon as it is available, get yours out of the system. Let them drive the price of stocks and mutual funds up and then you get the hell out. Cash in and invest in tangibles. This won't hold on past the election, if that long. And when it crashes again, ain't no rescue gonna work. It will go down the tubes. I had a fella tell me that around the first of the year and I didn't quite believe it. It appears I had better take another look at his prophecy.

Crime-busters turned snoopers

A team of research analysts at Syracuse University has been tracking
the FBI's activity in domestic crime investigations. The results are
revealing.

For example, in 2007, the FBI made 2,300 referrals of cases to be
prosecuted to the U.S. Justice Department. In 1993, the FBI made
20,900 such referrals.

Two decades ago, FBI investigations contributed 36 percent of the
total cases prosecuted by the Justice Department. Last year, the FBI
referrals were down to 16 percent.

So, if FBI agents aren't investigating crime in the United States,
what are they doing? Ferreting out terrorists, apparently, and
invading your privacy in the process.

Internal audits indicate the FBI has continued, and even expanded, its
pursuit of information on American citizens - made possible by the
Patriot Act - although it was ordered by a federal judge last year to
cease and desist.

The judge's ruling came after testimony that the FBI had issued more
than 140,000 "national security letters" in the period from the
beginning of 2003 through 2005. In his ruling, the federal judge
called such snooping the "legislative equivalent of breaking and
entering."

So, in the opinion of at least one judge, instead of solving crime and
helping to put criminals behind bars, the FBI has instead focused its
energies on violating the privacy rights of U.S. citizens.

Those national security letters allow the FBI to comb through phone,
Internet and bank records in an effort to thwart terrorism. It seems
highly unlikely that there are many terrorists, or U.S. citizens with
connections to terrorist groups, among the hundreds of thousands of
citizens whose lives have now been pried into by the FBI.

FBI officials admitted last week that the federal judge's order to
stop snooping, or at least slow the pace, had basically been ignored.
The bureau apparently continues to eavesdrop.

The mental image is inescapable - the United States as become a nation
of frightened people, cowering in a corner, giving up all semblance of
privacy and civil freedoms in an effort to keep from being terrorized.

At least that's the image the Bush administration fosters in its
relentless, unending search for the evildoers of the world.

REALITIES AND OTHER THINGS

POLITICAL REALITIES

It is a fact of life that a president of this country pretty much has his hands tied as to what he will do. Washington D.C. is run by a vast and highly-evolved-in-continuity bureaucracy. There is very little money in a budget for a president to play around with. Most domestic programs are set in stone and are relatively unchangeable. The one area of endeavor that is still open to the president is foreign policy. He can go around tripping the light fantastic to what ever song he wishes to play for the rest of the world. It's his one area of "somewhat" freedom that he has to show his skills at leadership. You may translate this as optimum justification for war if you wish.

And what else would you expect from a limited human being? After congress okays his cabinet nominees there isn't whole helluva lot to do. Oh, he could go watch Social Security checks being printed and mailed out. He could inspect federal buildings to see that the janitors were doing their jobs. He could check on the Corp of Engineers to see that the waters were being captured and released properly. Or he could go to various schools and read to the students. Hummm...I think that has been done recently. But a man can only stand so much of this and he really wants to do something to make his mark, to enhance his legacy. So he dabbles in foreign policy.

War is foreign policy. The smart man will pick on countries that he knows we can whip. Small countries that are very susceptible to high altitude bombing. And it doesn't matter that these countries are no threat to the USA whatsoever. Just get in there and win one for the enhancement of the American National Ego. That way people can keep on saying USA Number One! This is the surest route to getting re-elected. Either win a small war or better yet be involved in a small war and the american public will march with you down through history. You will get a bigger presidentil library, too. Can't forget that!

But the truth of the matter is that endless war causes an endless financial burden. And that will mean that we have more national debt to pay off. And more national debt means more foreign creditors. And more creditors mean more people you have to suck up to. And you start running your money printing presses overtime to pay for things. And all of this extra money floating around is good until the day of reckoning comes along. And the day of reckoning is when your own system, your own banks, start to fail. When people start to lose their own homes. And except for farm crops you really didn't have much beyond your real estate. All your manufacturing was moved off shore.

So the big creditors start doing analysis of your currency and they find that you have a couple trillion extra dollars out there in circulation and you have nothing new to back them up. Oops. So they tell you that your dollar, which was once valued at 80-some cents is now worth in the low 70-some cents. And all those generous guys in the Mid-East who once loaned so willingly and so generously have jacked your oil price to $107 dollars a barrel because your credit ain't worth the paper it's written on. Things start to fall apart internally when this happens. All kinds of things go to hell. Most americans are feeling the pinch of this. The old scrotum is getting squeezed unmercifully. Hang in there! We can still suvive this mess.

SURVIVAL

The normal way to combat this self destructing governmental policy is to go against the current of the world. Don't be a consumer, be a hoarder. That is better said if you remark that investing in tangibles is the way to go. Tangibles are just something that you can feel with your hands. Like non-hybrid seed. Like guns and ammo. Like canning jars and lids. Like extra clothing for when there ain't any more clothing. Like a stash of medications that you know are necessary. Like little gizmos that make life a bit more tolerable like fire starters and waterproof matches. I need a grill for outdoor cooking right now and ain't got it and ain't done anything about it. Shame on me if the bad times come and I can't cook over a fire in some sort of reasonable manner. And I mean SHAME ON ME. I know this shit is important and I should be taking care of it and I will when the opportunity manifests itself. All it takes it a metal fabrication that keeps stuff from falling in the fire. You can jack it in the air a bit with rocks and such from around your fire. Makes life so much easier. And it is in no way ostentatious. Old refridgertor shelves will work for a while but they are woefully inadequate for long term use.

Where I live back in the hills and hollars there is plenty of wood. It should not be a problem finding fuel to cook with. Unlike a lot of areas, the hardwood forest is pretty immune to forest fires. I wouldn't give you 10 cents to live in a pine forest. Sometimes pine does not burn, it just explodes. You hear about the huge forest fires out West every year but you don't hear about the hardwood forest burning. Stay out of the pines! It can kill you!

FOOD

After air and water, we need food. I am looking forward to gardening this year with great anticipation and others are too. We have a ton of seed to plant. Like I said earlier, I am going for beans this year. Beans can keep you afloat for a long time. You can damn sure get tired of them but it beats not living. The Handmaiden is working on getting things to add to the beans to make them taste a little better and not be so boring. Beans and Corn will do you right if you have them. I have a comment guy named Vlad who has some tasty sounding recipes for old hard beans mixed with ground corn. Some stuff that will give you some real nourishment and keep you healthy. Vlad's real name is Vlad Strelok and he can be read at http://tinyurl.com/3c46pp. I like this guy and hope he contributes more of his basic survival knowledge to us. We can use all we can get. He is a 22 fan and knows a thing or three about how to use then for various operations. He led me up on some You Tube videos that show an amazing capacity for quietness. Half liter plastic pop bottles. Cheap and available. Check him out.

MEDICINE

We don't as yet have a good volume of herbal medicines for the things that ail us. We need remedies for high blood pressure. We need disinfectants. We will need antibiotics. We already have the recipe for natural Sambucol. It's just Tincture of Black Elderberries. We need a substitute for Epsom Salts. We need a lot of stuff we don't have right now. I remember when I stacked lumber at our old Mill here at home and sometimes I would get a cut on a finger. I would merely piss on the cut and it would be okay. No infection. So any of you that know something in this area please let me know and I will get it broadcasted to my readers. Or put it in a comment. That will work!

Just work at surviving what the idiots are throwing at us. All their stupid regulations and formalities and threats and so forth have got to be overcome. We still have the Internet and while we do let us use it for our collective good, for our preparations.

Stay alive.

SURVIVAL THINGS

OFF TO AMISH LAND

The Handmaiden has gone to visit the Amish this morning. She will buy eggs and milk and whatever. Pretty good stuff. Good price and very good food. She enjoys seeing the Amish woman. They are becoming friends. They do little favors for each other. The Amish are anti-NAIS and my wife has gotten them information off the web and printed it out for them. And we might get an extra dozen eggs out of the deal. In the meantime my wife has become anti-NAIS. The Amish around here don't even raise cattle for the market. They don't produce milk for the market. They don't grow eggs or chickens for the market. And they sure don't raise goats for the market. Why should these subsistance farmers have to pay to have their animals tagged? It's crazy.

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

[News Bulletin! One of the ladies who lives on the pond where I live just called and asked if the bird she was seeing in a tree was an Eagle. I went out on the porch and looked and sure enough, we have an Eagle in our midst. It's an immature Bald Eagle. Decent size and watching the pond with intensity. I would not want to be one of our stupid ducks right now. Neither would I want to be a top swimming fish. Eagles like fish. Let's give it up for the EAGLE! Maybe now those bastard Beavers will migrate somewhere else. I'm getting tired of shooting Muskrats and Beavers who are trying to destroy our pond. Although, if I let them take out the dam we might be left with a nice garden plot that I can watch very easily. Should be rich ground.]

COMMENTS

I got some interesting comments this morning. One was from a man who knows about making flour from age hardened beans. He uses it to make a pancake along with ground corn. You can go kill tweety bird and throw some fresh meat in the pancake to jack its usable protein up to a very high level. Here is the post:

Michael

good to hear from you

fly by the seat of your pants.

usually I use equal parts ground beans and ground corn to make a quick meal of pancakes.

I added ground dried meat a couple of times as an afterthought. vary the amounts until it tastes right to you.

did your grandmother make cornmeal mush? ( stir corn meal into boiling water, remove from heat, cover and let it sit 10 min or so)

you can make mush of ground beans and corn meal.

I buy beef ground round when on sale, roll it, cut it in fingers, dry it in my Harvest Maid food dehydrator until it snaps like a dry stick. then I batter it to small pieces and grind in Corona corn mill, and keep it in plastic big mouth Planters peanut jars.

the oldest on hand was ground April 2007. it is still good.for a qjuick meal on the march-one cup ground meat powder (weighs 4 oz equals 10 oz fresh meat has 50 protein grams)-2 oz sunflower oil- one teaspoon ground cayenne-1/2 teaspoon yellow curry-16 ro so oz water in gatorade bottleshake well. enjoy

SURVIVAL DRILL

Yesterday the Handmaiden decided to waterproof some matches according to the instructions from Survival Tips. Worked like a charm. I now have my very own pill bottle full of waterproof, strike-anywhere, matches. She had a bit of melted wax left over so she went downstairs to the laundry and got a handfull of lint out of the filter on the dryer. She brought it up to the apartment and got out an egg carton made of cardbosrd or some such. She put some lint into each and every egg nest in the carton and tamped it down. Then she used up the remaining hot wax by pouring it on the lint in the egg nests. Viola! Fire starters. Pretty cool, I thought. You can cut the carton up for individual firestarters or you can use the whole thing and set the world on fire. Your choice.

People are picking up on the survival trip. I am getting hits from all over the world. I reckon the news of the coming calamity is going world wide.

The Eagle got a fish out of the pond and then took off. Probably to eat in private out in a deserted field close by. I'll let you know of any further sightings.

Stay alive!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON RANT

I just finished setting my clock on my computer up an hour ahead. Indiana elected this stupid governor who decided to make us go on different time at different times of the year. Now mind you, we didn't change our clocks in Indiana for 30 years previous to this governor. We stayed on the same time all year round. Indiana and Arizona and Hawaii never changed their clocks. But now that this idiot has the governors mansion we have to change twice a year. What a bunch of crap.

Not one business failed during that time because of time difference with the rest of the country. Somehow we always mangaed to make it through. But now we have to do this clock setting trip and I resent it.

Daylight savings time became popular when Dwight David Eisenhower was President. Ben Franklin invented it but Ike made it popular. Ike liked to play golf every afternoon and he needed the extra hour to get in his 18 holes, I guess. And the other morons of America decided they wanted to play golf like Ike did and they got their states to get into the clock changing business. I remeber stepping out of a bar in Syracuse, Indiana, one night in June during the late 60's and there was still light in the sky and it was damn near 11 p.m! The drive-in movie theaters were shut down in the Summer because it was not dark enough to see the movies at a decent hour. 'Course, the couples who went to kiss and play around loved it because they could stay out later on Saturday night. Not many drive-in movie places anymore. The morons shut them down.

So many things are done by government for our own good, even though we don't want it. It is called the Nanny state. Nanny knows what is best for us little kids, you know. All we have to do is hand over that tax money and Nanny will take care of the rest. Life sure is grand.

Stay alive.

SUNDAY MORNING RANT

NUTRITION

I've been on nutrition this morning. Americans have such a crappy diet that I can barely talk about it. Mostly from self shame I reckon.

My prefered dietary path comes from a dentist out of Ohio named Price. He did his main thrust in the dietary world back in the 1930's. Then a guy came along named, I think, Pottinger. And then Dr. Robert Atkins came on the scene. He was followed by Mary Eng and Sally Fallon. Sally Fallon has a book out called Nourishing Traditions. My Handmaiden reads it all the time.

I was talking to the Handmaiden about how that Beans and Rice together form a complete protein. She informed me that Sally Fallon had read a study that showed that a little meat added to the Beans and Rice really kicked up the available protein in the food. There was no scientific reason for this that I know of but it is nevertheless supposed to be a fact.

In my writing I entreat people to have lots of canned food ready for when things get bad. And the way prices are going up in the market place you can't lose on stored food. You can always eat the stuff! But I am now emphasizing having some canned meat to boost your protein intake from your Beans and Rice. You can make up a couple gallons of Rice and Beans and throw a small canned ham in there to make it better for you. Or maybe just put half the small canned ham in there and give your neighbor the other half for THEIR Rice and Beans. It might help them out, especially if they have children. Kids need protein for brain growth, good bones, and other things. Gotta keep the kids healthy. I have a two week course of Iodine tablets for everyone in my building and that includes the kids and the kids' boy friends and girl friends.

So do yourself this favor and get some canned meat to supplement your beans and rice. It's all for you and yours. I promise not to eat it.

RETREAT LAND

I have mentioned that I would try to find anyone some cheap land here in southern Indiana if they desired to come here as a retreat mechanism. I wasn't goiing to take a penny for the effort because I believe in survivalism and I will do what I can to help out. But the $750 dollar an acre ground I knew about is now $2000 an acre and going up! There is still land for sale but you better bring the dollars when you come to look at it.

This land is cut-over timber land and has very little regular crop growing areas in it. Except for small patches of ground, it is just too steep and rocky for much else than growing trees. Most of it is suitable for building a house or parking a trailer and MAYBE having a small lawn. But you better bring a bulldozer when you come. Nice level surfaces are not so easy to come by otherwise. Generally speaking, what land is suitable for growing hay or corn is already being used for that and is not easy to come by. It's at a premium, shall we say.

I read a real estate horror story this morning about good farmland being sold for $6500 an acre. Sounds like the big city realtors are constructing our next financial bubble out here in the sticks! And it's a shame too. Poor people are needing to get the hell out of Dodge right now and the money boys are holding them to where they sit. Not that I blame the realtors for kickin' up some business. God knows they ain't selling too many houses right now. But it will keep low income doomers off of junk ground because of inflated prices. Property that WON'T grow crops will bring you $3000 to $3500 an acre right now. You want to go out and buy yourself a ten acre patch of survival retreat, it is going to cost you between $30,000 and $35,000. Three years ago I could have located you the same dirt for $7500. And it ain't prime dirt. You might get a garden plot, but not much more. I think I had better add that banks are loaning $2000 an acre for this junk land. And that is from the horses mouth. It's real. And those loans are for commercial enterprises that use their land base as a credit lever for loans.

MAKING A LIVING

There are certain skills that can be used to keep body and soul together when the SHTF or TEOTWAWKI comes. Are you a Blacksmith? Can you make knives and repair broken machinery? Have you already got your forge and anvil? Are you an ace gardener who knows how to save all kinds of seed for the next year? Can you cut trees and make log cabins? Are you an animal doctor? ( I can't spell veteranarian) Can you raise and train horses? Can you make buggies and wagons? Are you a skilled herbalist that can help people cure their ailments and build up their immune sytems? Can you make Linen out of Flax? Can you make wool clothes out of sheep hair? It's too far North here to be thinking about cotton. You better head for Dixie if you're in to that.

I am sure I have missed some very important skills that would be necessary and profitable if hard times come. But you get the idea. I think I read one man who said that if the Big Bang comes those who will survive will find themselves living in the mid-1800's. Mid 1800 skills will rule and semi's will be things of the past, suitable only for the metals you can salvage from them.

If you don't have these skills then acquire some of them, or one of them. You will be doing yourself a favor and a favor for those that live with you or around you.

It's all part of staying alive!

Michael
