BUMMERS AND TRIUMPHS

Things are looking up. We have a couple tons of blacksmithing equipment being picked up and for a community with maybe 30 horses that ain't a bad deal at all. We already have a farrier here and some possible students so our future, for the time being, should be secure in the horse area. The horses have been described as an "emergency food source. Hehehehe. If you read Degringolade at http://mightaswellliebackandenjoyit.blogspot.com/ you will get a better handle on security and that sort of stuff. His last two posts were as good as you will find. I really enjoyed them.

Big John has started blogging again. He had a good post up about his garden this Summer and I enjoyed that one also. He also has post up about the 1939 Buick straight 8 he has. Quite a car. He has pictures up. You can catch Big John at http://bigjohnlipscomb.blogspot.com/. Give him some nice comment and sweeten him up a little bit. He has been kinda sour and bitter since he got off the radio.

The big gun at Foxnews and many other places, a man named Murdoch, has said his websites will all be charging people to view them. Sorry, Murchy ol' pal, but I will use other sources, thank you very much. You greedy sonovabitch. Michael Rivero had this to say to Murdoch.

Rupe, ol' boy; the reason you are losing audience and ad revenue has nothing to do with your business model and everything to do with the bias, slant, and deception regularly peddled by your rags as "News."

It doesn't matter if you change how you sell your lies; people still will not buy them.People want the truth, and they will go where they need to to get it.

A lot of folks are getting on the survival bandwagon. They are getting food and other goodies as fast as they can go. Good for them, I say. The wife just called me from town and she has Cabbages and Kale to plant in this strip of ground below the porch. I reckon me and Mister Wingmaster will keep a good eye out on them. Cabbage and Kale are two very nutritious foods for the human family. They are not non-hybrid so I ain't worried about getting seed form them. Just so long as they are not GMO bullshit I will eat the crops.

I got emails this morning that shut my mailer down. Someone from China, I think, was posting huge amounts of noxious advertising in that script you can't even read. And they come quickly. With my mailer reacting as quickly as it did I still got 50 of the damn things. They just come in a huge burst. You click to see if you have any email and BOOM, here they come. My advice is to turn off your mailer or however you get your stuff and then turn it back on and start erasing the crap. This stuff is all illegal. Some people will not leave us alone. And we pretty much mind our own business. Bastards.

I have a problem with my Cayenne Pepper plants. The got some blooms on them but then NOTHING. No peppers are growing. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I was gong to hang up a bushel of those little beauties and now it doesn't look like I will get any. Can they be saved?

The parting shot for today is that AIG needs another 10 or 11 billions dollars. Wanna bet that they get it? These boys really know how to live. AIG has insured all those bad deals the banks have been making. They get money from the fedgov and turn around and give it to the banks. Goldman Sachs got BILLIONS from AIG. But the rich are different you know. They privatize profit and socialize loss. Helluva deal.

POLITICS

The Democraps are blaming the Republicraps for the demonstrations at the various town hall meetings. What a crock of shit! Blame the resolve of people under the financial gun on politics! The Dems will not believe that their socialist agenda is not popular with the people. I guess the only way out of it is to dismiss all the bastards in the next election, if there is a next election. But here we sit, broke on our asses, and the Dems are wanting to put a big tax bill on us. If these people are that out of touch then they are nuts and uncomprehending. But I think they really do know the score. It's all a big game of politics. Smoke and mirrors. The House just appropriated itself two hundred million dollars for Gulfstream jets to fly them around the country. Remember when they bitched when the auto execs flew into Washington on private planes? Three new Gulfstreams. Pretty high class. They hold 19 people. A little over three million bucks a seat.

The economic blogs are predicting a major catastrophe toward the end of Summer. I am too! And I ain't even an economic blogger. I'm a back-in-the-hills survivalist with a wife and a brother-in-law and two cats. But the heavy hitters in finance and economics are predicting all sorts of hell to come upon us. Not too many reasonable folks are arguing with them. Obama might, but he is a little daffy you know.

Jim Haddix sent me an article on bomb shelters. Here is a snippet. If you actually do want to invite your extended family to stay with you for an extended period of time in your bomb shelter, there are plenty of options. Hardened Structures offers missile silos the government surplused in the 1990s. Meanwhile the CAT25 from Radius Engineering can hold 25 people for up to five months, and the company also offers the single-family Earthcom Dome, which Popular Mechanics calls the Four Seasons of bomb shelters. If a blast-hardened steel shelter is more your style, Utah Shelter Systems offers sizes ranging from 8 by 32 feet to 10 by 50 feet, starting at $40,000. Invite the neighbors, or don't; it's your choice since they're built to your standards.

You may think it's foolish for people to be dropping hundreds of thousands of dollars for something they may never use. But keep in mind this quote from Radius Engineering's Walton McCarthy about his CAT25: "The government is buying up all the shelters. We can't make enough." The government is buying all of them!

Stay alive.

LET US SURVIVE, OBAMA

I am a little upset with Obama and his crew this morning. The more I think about Obamacare and 'Cap and Trade' the more upset I become. And I know that I shouldn't let these sub-human minds upset me. These political organizers are merely soulless minions on the Elite and will do only what is expected to them. They can't help it.

But going over the 18% reduction in the tax collection of the fedgov gives me outrage that the dot gov people would dare try to install new taxes on us. We are down for the count and they are trying to get us to donate blood. WHAT THE HELL, OBAMA? You can't be trying to serve the American voter if you are trying to do this tax increase while we are hurting so much. And we are hurting, you stupid sonovabitch. And we are going to hurt some more if you did NOTHING harmful to us. This calamity is GLOBAL and there is nothing you can do about it. So save our money and don't spend it on bullshit. Buy huge stores of food to hand out when the time comes. Build up our national defense to the point that we can repel boarders. Don't have the troops here to enforce Martial Law while you try to get everyone to go along with your Swine Flu vaccine program. Have them here to kick ass on any invader! Get us a million short range missiles to defend our coast and borders. The Chinese will be coming over the Canadian border in uncountable numbers. We already have enough ICBM's to stomp out our overseas adversaries two or three times over. We need stuff to kick the shit out of INVADERS. Get a grip. Can't you even come up to a mild, low level of survival mentality? Are you so sold out the you can't even protect people? We have daughters and sons out here in fly over land too! And we would like to see them grow up in life and prosper and have babies.

We are still having the coolest Summer I can remember. It started to get a little muggy this morning and all of a sudden it clouded up and rained like crazy. Sure did cool things off a bunch. Wife has put on her zip up fleece because of the chill in the air. But the crops are growing like crazy. It doesn't take heat and humidity to grow corn and beans. I have lived under that fallacy all my life and it ain't true. Tomatoes can be stunted a bit but not the corn and beans.

I am trying to think of a good way to get about half of my food stash out of the house. I had a little meeting with couple of guys Sunday night, after I had left meeting and they said they were getting their eggs OUT of the same basket. I am trying to pay attention to this. Flea, down in Carolina, had lightning strike his home and cause him a terrible mess. I reckon it could happen anywhere. A fire, a tornado, a lightning strike, any of them, could wipe you out and you would lose all of your hard won preps. Not a pretty picture. Stay alive.

SHORT TUESDAY

Nothing much to talk about so this post will not take long. I am going to do a divisions of responsibility in our little 3 person group. Obviously it is not a big thing but it might have ramifications down the line. Let other people call a few plays and it not be me all the time.

The fedgov has dropped it's revenue by 18%. They are having trouble getting the money to finance fedgov programs. Naturally they talk about taking the money from Social Security. You gotta love the fucking politicians. They are scum from the word go. The Democraps are saying the will pass the Healthcare bill in September. Just another thing we cannot afford. My god. Running out of money for the programs we have now and going to pass another trillion dollar tick to put on the dogs back.

The Emir of Kuwait and the King of Jordan are over here talking to Obama and Clinton about getting Israel to go back to the agreements the made in 1967. Fat chance.

Stay alive.

SURVIVAL TIPS

Got an email from emjoe out in Idaho and thought to share it with you. He covers some important points so pay attention.

Pressure Cooker working on Apricot Pie Filling & Jam. Dehydrator working on Apricot Dried Yum-Yums.

Breathing Troubles? Got the Over the Counter Primatime Mist in the Kits.

Poop Plugged? Got the Over the Counter Cherry Flavored Magnesium Citrate in the Kits!

Martial Law Looming? That would really suck, because everyone should READ all their Insurance Policies! Once Martial Law is declared all Insurance Policies go right down the Crapper & nobody is covered, just like when I was a kid living in metro Detroit in July of 1967. See Detroit Race Riot of July 1967, deadliest in the nation, had to bring in US Army to stop it. So your house had an accidental fire the second day of Martial Law, gee, too bad, you ain't covered!

++++++++++++

That means your car insurance, your health insurance, your business insurance, everything you have for your kids, is all null and void! It's all gone like a puff of smoke. You might find that hard to believe but it is the way things are. Like emjoe said, if your house burns down, too bad.

I was watching Glen Beck on a video and I have trouble with WHY anyone would bother with him. He cannot get to the point. He dances around issues and never seems to come up with a reasonable conclusion. I think he is making a lot of money on Fox and he wants to keep it coming. Thus he will piss no one off, except for official Fox enemies.

Obama is still trying to put America under tight control. That thing with cars.gov is an example. They want to ride around in your hip pocket and know everything you do or read or write about. But I remember the preacher in The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne, who got up from his supper and told his wife he going down to the tavern to talk a little treason. They don't want us to talk but we will. The word is going to get out no matter what the Socialists do. The people who want to live in a clean world will have their day. Just you watch!

+++++++++

Another email from a good friend.

Your blog this morning and recent letters got me to thinking (sometimes I need the mental activity). You refer to setting on the porch with the shotgun. I think of that as thinking "inside out". I am trying to orient my thinking "outside in" as a tactical exercise.

What I mean, is, ask yourself some questions about how you would approach your position as a stranger (zombie, by today's slang) with less than honest intentions (like absconding with your bean stash). What would be the best avenues of approach ?

There are many aspects of this, like daytime, night time, how bloody do they want to get (whose blood), how fast of an approach can be made, are they willing to "reach out and touch someone" first, or make a sneaky in close approach, how large of a force coming in, how well trained of a force, weapons available, etc. Forager or scouting force, or Marauder force? How determined are they ? How well trained, militarily ?

And you are thinking 360 degrees around you here. Are there any good fields of fire at most likely approach zones ? And I mean both incoming and outgoing. Is there cover and concealment ? Any good choke points, or ambush sites ? Any place you could set up alarms ? Any barricades that could be constructed ? How close can they get in a vehicle of any kind and how fast ? Remember Cavalry, too.

In times of national upheaval, you may have to consider your support group setting up road blocks or obstacles at bridges or other natural check points on all roads coming into your area. Maybe even a series of them as fall back blocking positions. There will always be some sneaky scouty people who will be able to infiltrate those things, too. If big brother is involved, you may even have to look up.Consider the probability of any of these things happening.

It is a lot to think about. I bet our friend the Elder Dragon could do a good long blog article or so on many aspects of this. Come to think of it, I will Cc: him a copy of this, too. You can use any of this you want, but just refer to me as "a friend" for my own op-sec. I can hear the gears whirring in your head even now.

++++++++++++++++++++
I was glad to hear emjoe talking about his dehydrator going out there in Idaho. I think those babies can really store up some food for us. For those who have a TRACTOR STORE in their area, they are selling 2 burner cook stoves for a decent price. One model is $179 and another is $249. They have different merits and shortcomings but they will both cook your breakfast. That counts! The $249 model will hold more wood and last awhile, maybe a few hours into the night. Good for kids and water pipes. Stay alive.

UPSET NERVES!

In the last two days I have been surprised at the number of writers who are getting what one of them called Foxhole Nerves. They are getting a little off of the normal pattern of behavior. And it is just nerves. Nerves and the fact that we are about to get our work checked by the great confrontation with reality. Will what we have done work? Will it be enough? Do we have the guts to "man up" to what is expected of us? A lot of people give up at this point and get out of the game. The pressure is too great to go on. All their work and preparation is lost to them, the kids, and their friends. And I am saying don't do it! Stay the course! We have come this far and we might as well go along with the program of survival. It is in the best interests of keeping body and soul together.

There will be people getting shortness of breathe and constipation and maybe a few other signs of nerves. But it has all happened before and it will happen again and you get used to it and go on. Nothing to get upset about. Don't let your emotions wreck your plans! You have given lots of time, maybe days, thinking about ways to make your effort a success. Don't throw it away! You have done hours of reading and digging up data and emailing to get where you are today in your knowledge and understanding. It will be worth the effort!

A couple of nights ago I listened to 11 audio tapes of Cliff High and George Ure. Then I listened to 4 tapes of Gerald Celente. Man. Was I ever a wreck after that! 150 minutes of prime doomer talk and justification. It just about stopped me. I felt better a couple days later. But I was concerned because I knew what had hit me. And I didn't like my reaction to the stimulus. So I resisted the negative vibes from my own psyche and went on about my business. And I eventually calmed down. The wife made it through pretty well and we both actually enjoyed the tapes.

A little escapism can help you through times of stress, but do not let it take you over. The wife is a great reader and she will just announce that she is tired of all the bullshit of this day and age and she is going to read in the 15th century for awhile. Me, I will generally keep on keeping track of the days events and to hell with the results. But either way is fine if it works for YOU. You watch and listen as much as you can and you let your mind go to another place when you have to let it go. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Every now and then you need to catch a break. I read the Ben Raines books by William Johnstone for kicks. I am on my third one this week. But they take me away for a little while and I guess I need that.

Most when times I talk about waiting for the SHIT TO HIT THE FAN I just tell people to sit out on their porch with their shotgun or rifle across their lap and just watch the world go by. Just watch the kids playing or the dogs moving about or what ever is going on. And you aren't really derelict in your duty. You are pulling much needed guard duty on your area of concern. Good thing!

Nothing is ever going to happen perfectly in the world of human planning. It never does. All kinds of twists and turns come about and change the show. Our job is to be ready for all of those twists and turns we never planned on. We are in this movie and we don't even know how it turns out. Just be prepared to so the most you can with what you have. No one ever said you had to be the best tactician or strategist in the country. You just follow some basic rules of engagement and hope for a break. That is what soldiers have done for thousands of years. And I hope you do realize that growing your own food may well be your most important contribution to your family and your clan. People will still have to eat. Shooting a looter or a zombie may not be that big a deal but harvesting a crop will seem like a major break through in the events of the world. Keep it in mind. And stay alive.

ECONOMICS AND SURVIVAL

I keep running into the term "consumer economy". And I think "What other kind of economy is there?" I am so used to the idea of producing and selling in the market place that I can't fathom any other way of going about making a living. As I sit here mulling this subject over I am immediately reminded that we have a "service" economy. It was supposed to replace the manufacturing economy we once had. Didn't work out so well.

The way things used to work, a man harvested a crop, or a herd of animals or something from his farm and took it to the local village or town and sold it for his own support. With this money he paid what he had to pay to do his trip for the next year. When he went to town he didn't sell all he had but rather he kept a portion of seed for the next years crop and some animals to eat himself. If he owed any taxes to the local ruler he paid for them when he sold his crop. Life was pretty much dependant on getting in a good crop and getting it to market. If you failed at our endeavor then you might go hungry or lose your farm. Down through history things have been pretty tough on those who failed financially. If Daddy wasn't rich then you were up shit creek without a paddle and that is hard pulling, brother.

Being in a town or city was another story altogether. Tradesmen lived in town. They had stores or shops that they used to display their goods and wares. If you were popular and the people bought off of you than you made a good living. If folks would not buy off of you then you were out to lunch, with no food being served!

What we are dealing with right here is the concept of production and a market. They have to go together. If you have one without the other then you have practically nothing. Planning must accompany production. Marketing must be there also.

One thing I have stressed but never got into very much is comfort toward the people. You have to reassure folks that every thing is fine and dandy. And you might not think this is important but when you see the results of stress among a people that normally don't have it, then you will see what I mean. Probably the first thing that will crop up is breathing problems. Some folks will have trouble getting their breath. People who have had a little bit of breathing problems will all of a sudden develop Asthma. Do you have an inhaler for these emergencies? Can you offer some relief if things get critical? These things are very real and should be reckoned with while the reckoning is easy and available. You might be surprised at who gets afflicted with breathing problems. It happens almost irrespective of age and mental condition. Do NOT think that it won't happen to you or yours, because it will. This problem is not covered by most blogs in their medical posts. It just isn't given much coverage. But the people who get it will sure want it covered! Those people will be in hell and suffering for it. Wanting to take a deep breath and can't. Gasping like a fish out of water. Could be a kid. Could be your spouse. Could be your parents. And who it might be may be walking and running and thus escaping any suspicion or notice. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO WILL BE STRUCK WITH HIDDEN EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS! AND IT COULD BE YOU! Please take care of this matter before it rolls over you like a tidal wave. Doctors can get you the inhalers needed to help these people. Let's get it done.

Another area of major concern is the bodies waste disposal systems. People will not generally lose their ability to urinate but they can damn sure stop having their bowls working. I'm sure all of you have heard the term, "Scared shitless." Well, that is how it can happen. You let a major upheaval come over someone and they might just shut their bowels down and not even know they have done it. In fact, it is a good idea to question people as to if they have taken a bowel movement lately or not. Keep the appropriate laxatives on hand to get people back on schedule. You will be glad you did.

We are fairly recent arrivals to the planet Earth but our genetics can go back millions of years. And remember that all of our ancestors had to survive some nasty shit to get us here. So our drive to survive goes back a long way and is not easily cast aside. And it is not mean to be cast aside. Those traits have enabled us to make it this far and they were meant to be held onto. The human nature can mix up all the decisions our body has to make and get things all confused. A million year old emotional entity living in a 45 year old body with the things it is having to go through is not a pretty sight. Keep an eye out for these problems and stay alive.
