I have read the blogs this morning and people are getting edgy. And maybe for a damn good reason. In 2004 a young man had a dream and the Old Man came to him and told him that he had 5 more years of work to do. Let's see now...2004 plus 5 years would come to 2009! Hey! How's that for mathematics! I don't know what kind of work he had to do as yet but I know what he was dedicated to doing in life and that was getting ready for TEOTWAWKI. So if it starts this year then so be it and we are prepping. You are prepping aren't you?
I read an article on a MSM site yesterday that had a report that doctors were getting concerned that people might not be buying the right food for their diet now that financial hard times has come to our shores. Hell... They don't need to worry. What with starvation and fighting off cannibals and dodging trouble on the roads, most people will be in fine shape. Out here in Nowhere land we will be busy growing food and hunting and defending and getting water and all those myriad tasks that life in the hard lane involves. I reckon my big ass will lose a bunch of weight and I can't think of a better guy for it to happen to. Our prep food is based on the needs of our bodies and not so much on convenience. We have stuff that will keep you alive and nourished. We have SOME goodies for culinary diversion but not many. Our greatest variety is in our canned vegetables. The wife has insisted on good vegetables with good nutrition. The rice and beans and corn will take care of a lot of protein. If the electricity stays on we will have meat from the freezer. I'm gonna buy the wife a tank of gasoline today. The price has shot up to $2 a gallon and I don't trust these oil companies. They WANT the price to go up. They are not communal. They are global.
I listened to Don't Tread On Me this morning and Big John had a guy on that is a trucker and runs a store at http://www.americansurvivalstore.com/. He seemed like an okay sort of fella and he is selling Big John's Survival Seeds at a pretty good price. He also has some other things for sale but I won't go into the whole song and dance. Take a look and see if he handles anything you might have forgotten to pick up. You never can tell what you might have over looked.
Natog from TEOTWAWKIAIFF is gonna be on Big John's show tonight so give it a listen and see how our friend does with the radio. My bet is that he will do fine. After all, he is a blogger and a reader of Staying Alive and that moves him up the evolutionary scale quite a bit. He is trying to get out of Boston, Mass, and that is something you should call about and ask him how he is coming along with that project. He is a good guy and he needs to be OUT of that city he lives in.
Dragon has been active these last few days and I like to read his stuff. He's a hard ass and so am I and I can relate to his attitude. Treesong had plenty of stuff up this morning to read. Seems like she got into it with her sister-in-law over her lifestyle. Sis-in-law had better watch out!
That is about it for this bight, sunny, Friday morning. Haven't had a lot of sunlight of late. It's been cold. Good sleeping weather, however.
Stay alive!

WE PASS THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK
It's been a strange day. One of the women here in the village has gone to the hospital with cancer, congestive heart failure, and failed kidneys. I was asked to pray for her and I did. From the sound of things it will take a miracle to save her. I hate these situations. There is a woman I have known for dam near thirty years, messed up beyond belief and I am powerless to help her. It is humbling to a man to face this. I prayed and asked God to help her. Every prayer has to end with "Thy will be done." and I don't know his will in this matter. But it is a hurtful thing to know an old friend is in such trouble. She had three kids and they were all raised here in the Valley. Two boys and a girl. Fine children. I feel sorry for the Hell her husband must be going through. All these years and the woman is only about 45, if that old. You just have to hold your head up and go on.
One of my friends here in the village was talking to me on the phone today and said he and his wife had been buying $100 worth of canned vegetables a month and storing them away. He had taken a pretty strong position against prepping but has obviously changed his mind in view of the facts. He did can some green beans last year from our garden. He has about 55 quarts of beans. Well, he got the word, somehow, and he is starting to change his situation. I give him credit for that.
The Handmaiden heard that an older woman here in the village who had been sick had run out of food. So she loaded up a bag and ran it over to the woman's house and gave her the food. It turns out that the woman DID have food but she was pleased that someone showed some care for her. We left the food over there just in case things got tough before the woman could go to town for more groceries. Sounds like we have a new customer for the bounty of the garden this coming year. The woman is over 70 years old and I, for one, will excuse her from working in the garden for her share. I think I can make that stick. Yep. God willing, of course.
It is the season for seed catalogues. Most of them are rip off hybrid stuff but that has a place also, if the seed is cheap enough. DO NOT GET ANY GENETICALLY MODIFIED SEED! That shit is evil. But the seed catalogues have pretty pictures of great looking vegetables. American must grow a lot of flowers because the catalogues are packed with flower seeds. I have seen more plants being offered than I have before. What a waste of money. But if you live too far North they might be the way to go. I don't know how the affairs of the world will govern our actions this coming season but I fully intend to grow and save back a lot of food. God only knows what our stupid government will do about this. I was reading Mayberry this morning and he was having a shit fit about some law forbidding the sale of used children's toys and clothes. I read it and viewed the video and I had a shit fit also. This government is going nuts! Control, control, control. They have been reading our emails and our regular mail and listening to our phone calls. Now they want to say we can't go to the second hand store and buy cheap kid's clothes. Beating on the poor again. What terrorist do we have to fear? Our greatest threat is our own government!
In reading the blogs today I sensed that Ornery Bastard is getting better. Pearls wrote some idiotic palaver about liking Police. Big Bear had some good posts up about windows and how they can help lower your electric costs. As of the time of my morning perusal, Treesong had nothing up but she probably will later on today.
That is about all I have for today. Stay hunkered down in this cold weather and eat good food to keep your health up to par.
Stay alive!

SOME TIN HAT STUFF
Military Dictatorship Coming To America
Written by www.daily.pk
Tuesday, 06 January 2009 18:00
THE WORSENING ECONOMIC CRISIS has prompted the US Army War College to issue a report urging the use of military troops to contain possible civil unrest throughout America.
Entitled, Strategic Shocks in Defense Strategy Development, issued on November 4, 2008, the report argues that the US military must prepare for a “violent domestic dislocation provoked by an economic collapse.”
The report was authored by Nathan Freier, an Army lieutenant-colonel and professor at the US War College in Carlyle PA - the Army’s main training institute for prospective senior officers. Freier consigns dissenting Americans to the category of “hostile groups:”
“Civil unrest would force the defense establishment to maintain domestic order. Under certain circumstances this would include use of military force against hostile groups inside the United States.”
Zionist Jews who control America’s banks also have a stake in a militarist usurping of America’s civilian realm. On November 22, 2008, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, former CEO of the Jewish investment bank, Goldman Sachs, threatened Congress of martial law if they did not pass a bailout bill. Because Jews fear an “Anti-Semitic” backlash during an economic downturn, an imposition of martial law would be welcomed by US Jewry.
Preparing to implement martial law, on December 1, 2008, the Pentagon announced its plans to deploy 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 to help state and local officials respond to emergencies.
And General Tommy Franks, a former US Commander in Iraq, said in a recent interview, that if another terrorist attack occurs in America, the Constitution would be discarded in favor of a military form of government. This “military form of government” is now being set up by the newly-formed Obama administration.
OBAMA BOWS TO THE PENTAGON PUPPET-
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA has appointed 3 four star military officers to his cabinet since his election on November 4, 2008. With Obama’s choice of Admiral Dennis Blair as Director of National Intelligence, Robert Gates at Defense, & General James Jones at National Security, the launching of a military dictatorship is now in place in Obama’s fascist administration.
The leading warlord in Obama’s cabinet is Defense Secretary, Robert Gates. Gates answers to the powerful Trilateralists, David Rockefeller and his 80 year old protege, Zbigniew Brzezinski. The Trilateralist global agenda is presented in Brzezinski’s book, The Grand Chessboard. In Brzezinski’s call to escalate US military power, democracy is a hindrance to his militaristic goals:
“Democracy limits the use of America’s power - especially its capacity for military intimidation. Pursuit of military power is not a goal that commands popular passion except in conditions of a sudden threat to domestic well-being. Democracy is inimical to military mobilization.”
Obama is fully subservient to his masters of “military mobilization” - Brzezinski, Rockefeller, Gates, Blair & Jones. Spelling out his subservience to the Pentagon, on December 1, 2008, Obama declared, “To ensure prosperity here at home, we must maintain the strongest military on the planet.” To this end, Obama has pledged to increase the size of US ground forces by 100,000 soldiers.
Portending a full militaristic culture in America, Obama’s Chief of Staff, the Zionist Jew, Rahm Emanuel, has called for compulsory service for Americans ages 18 to 25. Service would include three months of basic training & civil defense preparation. Emanuel has also said he sees no reason why ALL Americans should not do national public service.
If the Zionists succeed in their plan for forced national service, Obama’s fascist warlords will have hundreds of thousands of SS Brown Shirts to enforce a military dictatorship right down to the neighborhood level. And this military dictatorship is…Coming To A “Theatre” In Your Neighborhood Soon.

POWER GRIDS IN PERIL

POWER GRIDS IN PERIL: The National Academy of Sciences has released an important new report detailing how geomagnetic storms could damage the infrastructure of modern society. An area of particular vulnerability is power grids. Ground currents induced during century-class storms can melt the huge, multi-ton transformers at the heart of power distribution systems. Because modern power grids are interconnected, a cascade of failures could sweep across the country, rapidly cutting power to tens or even hundreds of millions of people:
According to the report, "impacts would be felt on interdependent infrastructures with, for example, potable water distribution affected within several hours; perishable foods and medications lost in 12-24 hours; immediate or eventual loss of heating/air conditioning, sewage disposal, phone service, transportation, fuel resupply and so on." Melted transformers can take months to repair or replace--so a single extreme storm could make itself felt long after solar activity subsides. Nothing, it seems, is immune from space weather. (audio)

GETTING STARTED
After being on John Lipscombs radio show I have encountered a lot of interest in getting out of the system and getting to some place of relative safety and freedom. I am going to write about that today. In honor of economy, I am going to publish this on my blog instead of on the communal blog.
My experience with a communal venture has taken many strange turns. I was with a bunch of Hippies out of New York City for a while. Not much of a nucleus to work with. I had a few people up in northern Indiana at an old farm house for a while. No economic base and no chance of it. Stupid kids, I reckon. Then I went to a new venture down in Brown County, Indiana. It was better than anything I had seen before but nor good enough to stake my future on. Then I met a man named Daniel Wright and that got me hooked. The man knew what he was doing and had the spirit on him to make it happen.
Being a true man of God and a child of the depression, Daniel knew how to work and survive. I didn't know as much about survivalism as Daniel but I damn sure knew how to work. I got the message and the nuggets on survivalism by watching and participating. The school of hard knocks is what it is called. We were heavily engaged in sawmilling and logging but there were other things you picked up on the way. Daniel was not much for hiring outsiders to do our building. If it was going to get built we were going to do it ourselves. You picked up on a lot of construction that way. And that kind of education stays with you.
Up until the late 70's Daniel and his wife Lois owned everything in the Valley. I thought that was fine and dandy. Daniel was like a father to me and having Pa in charge just seemed right in my eyes. But then he made the business into a partnership, with every one on the Valley an owner. The cooks, the school teachers, the truck drivers, any farm people we might have and so on. Everybody was an owner of the business and we filed a gigantic partnership filing every year. The IRS hated us. They like Corporations and single proprietorships. We never were too popular with the government. I remember they gave us a complete tax audit two times in three years. My brother was a business man out in society and I asked him about that audit trip. He said it sounded like somebody didn't like us. We wore the audits like a badge of honor. "Fuck Scag" was our motto. We would have gone to war for that old man. He was the wisest and kindest any of us knew.
Also about that time Daniel and Lois signed over the whole property to the people and the people in turn signed over their individual shares to seven men who were called trustees of the Valley property. The seven men were men Daniel thought he could trust. The property was actually owned by a land trust and the trustees were elected by the people with no time limit on their term of office. The trust papers basically say that the property is to be held for God's people. The trustees are responsible for seeing to the payment of the land taxes. There is no sword of dismissal over any one's head. Perverts and criminals can be booted out and every one else is free to roam. In our present incarnation you must pay $12.50 per week to live in the Valley, unless you are retired, at which point you are released from that obligation. We have never taken any one's pension money and would only do so if it meant our survival.
But when we started it was all for one and one for all. And we worked our asses off. We were very young if you averaged our ages. And the young are for war. And let me tell you we warred like maniacs. We got every board out of that mill that it would cut. We logged impossible tracts of timber and made a profit. We built our buildings of an evening and on the weekends. And we had muscles in our shit. We were Phase One men and women. We were the arms and legs and backs that God used to get this place going. And some of us were damn proud of it.
The overall attitude in those beginning years was basically do or die. There was no room for failure. And you have to have that in your mind as a group if you are going to make it. We didn't know it at the time but we were learning the rudiments of survivalism. Not too many years after I got here in 1971 Daniel built a storage cellar. All concrete. 70 feet long and 14 feet wide. The floor has one foot of slope front to back. I have seen that cellar packed completely full of food. And that includes the aisle down the middle. Of course, that fullness has not been achieved in a couple decades. The Old Man passed on in 2001. He would have a garden that would knock your sox off if he were still alive. He was a communal man and a survivor and he would get the job done. Of course, no one had the balls to turn him down either. You don't deny a man who has given his life for you.
We lived pretty free down in the Valley. We basically followed Daniel and what he was trying to do. We had a big piece of land to romp on. We ate venison all the time. Not too many people ever came down in the Valley looking for trouble. But we were united behind that old man. God had given us to that man and we thought it was very cool. It was a rough place. A good fight on Saturday night around the keg was nothing. When the fists started flying and the boots started stomping the women just got the hell out of the way. We looked out for the kids. They were pretty precious to us. We all had dreams that the kids would replace us in the mill and in the woods when they got old enough. That turned out to be a pipe dream. The kids all went to school and got educations and won't go near a sawmill. Can't say as I blame them. A sawmill is a loud, dirty, dangerous place to work. I don't miss it much.
There was not a clear picture for us to see where we were going with our lives. If you had told me that I would be living in a small apartment and retired by the age of 62 I would have laughed in your face. Couldn't happen! But it did. The body is not the same as in years past but the spirit is still there. You never know what your destiny is in life. You work and labor to your utmost and then the older years come upon you. Surprises lurk at every turn in the road. Be ready for them and try to accept them with a good spirit.
Stay alive!

HAMBURGER TAX
EPA 'Cow Tax' Could Charge $175 per Dairy Cow to Curb Greenhouse Gases
Farm Bureau warns just this one rule may increase milk production costs up to 8 cents a gallon. By Jeff Poor Business & Media Institute12/30/2008 4:55:19 PM
Michael sez: The boys at the EPA are not going to worry about the added cost of milk. They will just get pay raises to compensate for the added expense, and probably some extra.
Call this one of the newest and innovative the ways your government has come up with to battle greenhouse gas emissions.
Battle greenhouse gases? Why? Greenhouse gases never bothered me! And all the cattle we have raised on this continent over the past 250 years has never hurt anyone. All those Buffalo herds that stretched as far as the eye could see never bothered anyone's breathing. This seems so strange.
Indirectly it could be considered a cheeseburger tax, but one of the suggestions offered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) for regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act is to levy a tax on livestock.
Ah! A tax! It don't matter if your meat cost rises through the roof. It don't matter if your milk price keeps you from feeeding it to your babies. Get out there and bend your back and do the grunt work so your betters can go ahead and enjoy good food. Stupid peasants!
The ANPR, released early this year, would give the EPA the authority to regulate greenhouse gas for not only greenhouse gas from manmade sources like transportation and industry, but also “stationary” sources which would include livestock.
That's right. They're gonna tax your hamburger right in the field.
Just what we need to cure the nations ills! A fucking hamburger tax! Why didn't we think of this sooner! Someone raises some beef or pork or a milk cow to make it in life and the government wants to tax you for your work. Kiss me where the Sun don't shine!
The New York Farm Bureau assigned a price tag to the cost of greenhouse gas regulation by the EPA in a release last month.
“The tax for dairy cows could be $175 per cow, and $87.50 per head of beef cattle. The tax on hogs would upwards of $20 per hog,” the release said. “Any operation with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs would have to obtain permits.”
Dirty filthy bastards! But what are they gonna do if a communal group pools their pasture land for their "individually owned cattle." There has to be ways around this.
Kate Galbraith, correspondent for The New York Times, noted on the Times’ “Green Inc.” blog that such a “proposal is far from being enacted” and that the “hysteria may be premature.”
Yeah, right. But how come no one has trouble envisioning this tax becoming law? I am not in hysteria. I am pissed off. To think that some anal oriented biped would conjure up such a proposal is almost beyond reckoning. But there has to be a reason why a lot of queers work in D.C. Let's hear it for ol' Barney Frank!
But Rick Krause, senior director of congressional relations for the American Farm Bureau, warned it’s certainly feasible – especially based on the rhetoric of President-elect Barack Obama and the use of the EPA to combat global warming. Such action by an Obama administration would take an act of Congress for livestock to be exempt.
“The new president has been on record as saying that he really supports regulating greenhouse gases out of the Clean Air Act,” Krause said to the Business & Media Institute. “So, we really have to keep an eye on it. Legislation would really be the only way to exempt it at this point – the cow tax.”
Let's see if I have this right. The Law has already been enacted that lets the president do this if he so chooses. The only was to get the farm animals out of the noose is to enact legislation that would exempt them. But any dumbass knows that the President can veto any legislation he cares to and a Democrat congress will not pass it over his veto. Do you feel a blow torch on your Glutamus Maximus yet brothers and sisters? Are you feelong the sting of the lash on your back?
Krause said it is difficult to quantify the cost that might be passed directly to the consumer by farmers from the legislation, but predicted it would mean higher costs for dairy production.
“It’s hard to figure what it would do to consumer prices since farmers, unlike other industries, really can’t pass their cost along directly like utilities and things do,” “About the only thing we could realistically come up, in terms of any of this stuff – it would add between 7 and 8 cents per gallon of milk costs to farmers. So it would cost them 7 or 8 cents more to produce a gallon of milk.”
What it means is the farmer either passes it on to the consumer or he goes out of business. A big downturn in the meat market and the farmers are toast.
Even the Department of Agriculture warned the EPA that smaller farms and ranches would have difficulty with limits as much as 100 tons annually on emissions:
“If GHG emissions from agricultural sources are regulated under the CAA, numerous farming operations that currently are not subject to the costly and time-consuming Title V permitting process would, for the first time, become covered entities. Even very small agricultural operations would meet a 100-tons-per-year emissions threshold. For example, dairy facilities with over 25 cows, beef cattle operations of over 50 cattle, swine operations with over 200 hogs, and farms with over 500 acres of corn may need to get a Title V permit. It is neither efficient nor practical to require permitting and reporting of GHG emissions from farms of this size. Excluding only the 200,000 largest commercial farms, our agricultural landscape is comprised of 1.9 million farms with an average value of production of $25,589 on 271 acres. These operations simply could not bear the regulatory compliance costs that would be involved.”
I guess we will be left out here in the country clutching our bibles and our guns. Seems fair to me! When do we get it on!

CYCLES
Took a drive to town with the wife on a gray, wet morning. I had heard that this is the time for certain things like canned Pumpkin and Dried Fruit to be on sale. Well, it hasn't started here yet, evidently. The trip was not a flop, however, as I got a flat of White Corn Hominy, which I love, and four cans of Yams, which the wife said were a good price. They were pretty big cans and they were 4 cans for $5. I noticed that there was a couple of things in the store that said they were Kroger foods and I mentioned that to the wife. She said that she thought that Kroger had bought the local guy out. Too bad. Kroger gets too Yuppie for me. I shop a lot by price and Kroger doesn't usually have low prices. But the preps are bigger than when we started today so that is an improvement.
http://personaldisasterplanning.blogspot.com/ The prepared warrior sent me a comment and said that it was so hard to keep track of everything that is going on in this day in which we live. I couldn't agree more. Things are running along at an amazing rate.
I am pushed for time today. I have a lot of things to look at plus I have to be on Big John Lipscomb's show this evening. I enjoy Big John. I am going to enjoy his non-hybrid seed this Summer as well! I have to go to the country seat this morning and I am not too happy about playing with the bureaucrats. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
All bets are off on any economic recovery anytime soon. So far we have seen devaluation, the preppers friend, but I can't help but believe it is a short lived phenomena.
I want to tell you something here that is in opposition to scientific thought, for the most part. I want to to tell you that economics are on a cycle. And that will get your sneered at in modern circles. We are to believe that 'natural' things are on a cycle, like the yearly cycle of the earth going around the sun. But human action is always supposed to be spontaneous and original. And you can say HORSESHIT to that. All mankind is of a cyclic nature. That is the way we are to believe because that is the way the Powers That Be want us to believe, if they even know the secret themselves.
A man I knew heard a voice one day and it said to him, "All my Creation is a woman." Men have known for a long time that their woman was on a cycle but they never knew they were on one too! Well, I am here to tell you that man, as well as woman, is cyclic. Ask your wife. She knows! What I am saying here is that this economic collapse is part of a cycle and there is not much you can do about it. God set up the year of Jubilee so that every 50 years all debt was forgiven and we all started anew. But man has done away with what God ordained and man now says that stuff is all superstition. We shall see about that! Our God is pretty smart and knows what he is doing. Let pissant man strut his stuff and act like he is in control. What a joke!
Another thing that man has discarded is genetics. It is the tale of us all! But that is another post and I must go for now. Take care, prep alike crazy, and stay alive.
